I had an epiphany this morning....

Nickey is like Ralph Wiggum!

1. They're not the brightest boy/dog, but that's what makes them so charming
2. They both have extremely round heads
3. Other kids/dogs pick on them, but they don't seem to mind
4. They like to eat. A lot.
5. "Socially acceptable" does NOT resonate in anything they do.
6. They're both always very positive and cheerful, despite their being academically challenged.

And in honor of Ralph's "wittiness" and the Simpsons movie coming out tomorrow Friday 7/27, here's a montage of Ralph-isms:

On a gloomy day....

Photos of Nickey as a puppy can always cheer me up, no matter what.

Getting out of the house

I realize most of the photos I've posted of Nickey are from when he's at home. To change things up, here are some moments from when we took Nickey and Snowball to Carmel. We learned a few things...

1. Nickey is afraid of the tide

2. Nickey loves to bother Snowball even out of the house

3. Nickey enjoys relaxing on the wet sand

4. Snowball doesn't like to conform, especially when it involves a doggy butt sniffing train

5. Despite his retirement from the ring, Nickey will always be a champion show dog to me :)

Sleepy....

Does your pug/dog sleep in weird positions?

Pug Hunting

Back in the day, one of my coworkers decided to create a blog called Pug Hunting in which he featured pugs as ferocious wild creatures. Despite what seemed like anti-pug content, the blog clearly featured this disclaimer: This site is dedicated to Nickey the pug. Don't worry about all the stuff you read here (well except for the parts about pugs smelling, because that is most definitely true), because WE LOVE PUGS!

The blog is no longer maintained but it is still up for all to enjoy. In its honor, I have included one of its more memorable posts below.

Here we see a recent photo taken of a member of Pugus Gigantis that has recently slaughtered an elephant. Notice how it dwarfs the giant elephant, and shatters the bones in his mighty jaws. Take this as a reminder not to take these mighty creatures, lightly!

Note - the photographer was soon stomped to death after taking this picture.

An Octopus's Garden

I'd like to be
Under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
He'd let us in
Knows where we've been
In his octopus's garden in the shade

Pug techniques for cooling down

On hot days, Nickey chooses to relax on cool, smooth surfaces. Here he demonstrates his favorite cool-down spot- inside one of the shelves of our coffee table.

Nickey looks a little irritated by the paparazzi.

Baby Eskies

Princess sitting happily... and avoiding Nickey as much as possible.

Water baby?

My nieces and nephew from Korea came to visit California a couple summers ago (2005) and they decided to take Nickey swimming.

Needless to say, Nickey was NOT happy. Despite dogs supposedly being able to swim by instinct, that doesn't apply to Nickey. Left to his own devices in the water, he starts sinking like the Titanic.

Snores like an old man

Many people ask me this, and yes Nickey does snore. Very loudly. Not convinced? Listen and watch for yourself... be sure to turn up your volume.

Nickey's Portfolio

Nickey has built up quite a portfolio, with most of his gigs coming from Google. Here's a commercial he shot for Google Earth's Santa Tracker. It was a tough shoot due to wardrobe issues, but at least he got to enjoy a lot of string cheese while he was at it.

Nickey's breakthrough appearance with Google campaigns started with a post on the official Google Blog. Again, a grueling photo shoot was involved but he did great for his first gig ever.

Blast from the Past

Another photo of Nickey in his early days. He's wearing a cone here because he had an accident with a door at work and required emergency surgery on his paw. He looks especially pitiful because I taped his ears. Taping ears is a very common practice among show dogs as it helps teach their ears to sit properly in the right position.

Nickey's an uncle!

We had a BBQ today and Nickey got to meet 2 of Snowball's kids for the first time - Princess and Teddy. As you can see, Nickey was very excited to meet them but the feeling was not mutual.

On that note, Nickey wishes everyone a Happy 4th of July!

A long time ago, back when Nickey was not even a year old yet. You can see how little he is in this photo and also how light his ears are. They darkened as he got older and now they're completely black.

We still have that goose toy, although Nickey can't play with it because he ripped it open and stuffing comes out (which he tries to eat).
This is way overdue, and I always meant to get this up and running. Well, better late than never! This is Nickey's little fotoblog on the web. Be sure to stay tuned to his adventures.
